Harper Grey unleashes new initiative to help stem the exodus of women lawyers from the practice of law

March 4, 2020

At Harper Grey, we are committed to helping women maximize their potential and thrive in their careers.

Harper Grey partners, Kim Jakeman and Una Radoja, share a passion for expanding possibilities for women in law.  They also share a frustration over the rate at which women leave private practice or leave the profession altogether.  “We have all watched as our female friends, coworkers, and colleagues have made the difficult choice to give up the career path they spent years working towards and we wanted to do something that would make an impact and help lower the attrition rate of all women lawyers.”

They latched onto the idea of creating a forum, outside of the standard mentoring model, that would be readily accessible and provide a confidential service for women lawyers to talk to each other and share their experiences, knowledge and perspectives.

Life in Law was founded on that concept.  It offers free casual and flexible services provided by our senior female lawyer ‘advisors’ primarily through phone or online chat support and the ‘Dear LiL’ blog.

“Although powered by Harper Grey, Life in Law is meant to be, more broadly, a forum for women to support women”, says Managing Partner Jonathan Meadows.  “Our firm is delighted to support it and get it off the ground and we hope that over time interest grows in the forum and it becomes a place where women feel safe to express their concerns through the support of other women in the practice of law.  This means growing to include lawyers outside Harper Grey who have their own story to tell or lesson they want to share.”

We are proud to announce that Life in Law launched today and can be visited at www.lifeinlaw.ca.  Questions may be directed to Kim Jakeman or Una Radoja.
