Daniel Reid quoted in CBC News article discussing defamation law and negative online reviews

September 14, 2022

Harper Grey lawyer, Daniel Reid, was recently quoted in a CBC News article titled “Animal hospital sues former client over viral TikTok videos claiming clinic mistreated her dog”. The article discusses the rise in negative reviews on the social media platform TikTok. The app is one of the most popular websites in the world and the algorithm allows videos to go viral overnight. The woman featured in this article took her dog to a veterinarian and was unhappy with the service. She posted a heated video to TikTok that has received over 900,000 views. The veterinarian claims her story isn’t true and they are suing her for defamation.

Daniel commented on the nature of social media saying, “Everyone’s a publisher now and the result of that is that we’re seeing more and more people defamed with a much wider reach on platforms like TikTok”.
