Dionne H. Liu

Dionne maintains a practice focused on health, insurance and aviation law.
Dionne is called to the bar in British Columbia and the Yukon Territory. She has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia and before administrative tribunals. She has also appeared before the Yukon Small Claims Court and the Yukon Supreme Court. She has experience with chambers proceedings, hearings, trial, and appeal. She also has experience with alternative dispute resolution mediums.
In her health law practice, Dionne defends and advises physicians in respect of medical negligence lawsuits, professional regulatory complaints, human rights complaints, and medical legal issues arising in the course of their medical practices. She has experience dealing with complex medical claims, including related to infant claims and delayed diagnosis. As a complement to her general health law practice, Dionne has developed specific expertise in the fields of medical assistance in dying, capacity and consent issues, and mature minor consent particularly in the context of gender-affirming care.
Dionne’s insurance practice involves defending against liability claims in a wide range of contexts, including relating to professional liability, personal injury, human rights, contract, and property damage. She also has experience in proceedings brought under the Class Proceedings Act.
In her aviation practice, Dionne assists airports and air carriers with customer claims, assists aviation companies with aircraft damage and contract claims, and engages with forum issues. Dionne has been recognized by Best Lawyers as “One to Watch” in the area of aviation law.
Dionne has a keen interest in public international law and coached the University of British Columbia team for the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition from 2017 to 2024. Dionne also writes for the Insurance Law Netletter for LexisNexis.
