Song joined Harper Grey in 2022, bringing with him over 12 years of experience as a commercial and civil litigator, most recently with the law firm of Chen and Xue LLP, which he co-founded in 2018. He has represented clients before all levels of court in British Columbia.
An adept problem solver, Song has experience handling a range of complex commercial matters including real property litigation, construction and renovation, partnerships, breach of contract and corporations and trust disputes. He has also represented clients in family matters involving property issues.
Song has created a reputation for himself providing business-focused solutions to his clients’ complicated issues. He prides himself on his simple and concise communication. One of his greatest strengths lies in his ability to relate to clients with diverse backgrounds.
Before immigrating to Canada from his native China, Song attended university and worked for close to ten years, including four years as a paralegal for American law firms in Beijing. This experience informed Song’s ability to understand and address the legal needs of Chinese clients in relation to their business operations and inspired him to study Chinese law. Song obtained a Lawyer’s Qualification Certificate from the Ministry of Justice of China in 1998 and went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree from the University of British Columbia in 2008.
Song’s cross-cultural background has provided him with a nuanced understanding of both the similarities and differences between the laws in each country. This unique perspective and Song’s familiarity with Chinese cultural values serves both his first and second generation Chinese clients.
