Sandra Abley invited by BC Minister of Health to make a presentation at Annual Journey to Freedom Day Act celebration
April 25, 2019
At noon on Saturday, April 27, 2019, hundreds of Vietnamese Canadians will gather to celebrate Vancouver’s annual “Journey to Freedom Day” at Jack Poole Plaza. Journey to Freedom Day held annually on April 30 since 2015 commemorates the exodus of Vietnamese refugees to Canada after the fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War. Canada opened its doors to more than 60,000 Vietnamese boat people.
Journey to Freedom Day:
- commemorates the tragic events surrounding the exodus of Vietnamese refugees;
- pays tribute to Canadians (government, community groups, churches, everyday people, and more…) who offered a safe haven to Vietnamese refugees; and
- celebrates the incredible contributions of Vietnamese-Canadians to our community.
Sandra Abley has been invited by the BC Minister of Health to make a presentation, as one of the many unique refugee stories, about her family’s journey to Canada, their experiences as newcomers and refugees, and how they have succeeded and contributed to the community.
