Changes in the workplace amid the COVID-19 pandemic are moving rapidly. To help you keep pace, Rose Keith, QC has created reference materials on how to manage workplace reductions due to COVID-19. In her paper, she addresses employment insurance sick benefits and the work sharing program and how they apply to you and your workplace. She also explains the Supplemental Unemployment Benefit (“SUB”) Plan as it relates to changes in the workplace due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This Plan allows an employer to top up EI benefits to lessen the loss of income experienced by the laid off employee and applies to both regular EI and EI sickness benefits.
